Jagermeister in German means 'expert hunter' - from Jager ( hunter ) and Meister ( master ). The brand's logo features the head of a stag with a glowing cross between its antlers and is a reference to the tale of St. Hubert : Hubertus, a young wastrel from Toulouse back in the 7th century, won the hand of his fair maiden, Floribana, in battle, but they didn't live happily ever after as his beautiful princess died soon after. Overcome by grief, Hubertus did what any reasonable man would have - he took to hunting solitarily in the Ardennes. On one such hunt he came across a splendid stag with what appeared to be a cross floating between its antlers - this vision so moved our Hubertus that he gave all his material riches to the poor, founded several monasteries and became St. Hubert posthumously.
