Stacey : I was recently diagnosed with a yeast allergy and found out it is in almost all booze. Do you know of a vodka or other alcoholic beverage that does not use yeast, or maybe a wine that does not use yeast?

Tulleeho: Hi Stacey, sorry to hear about your allergy. We put your question to an expert, Prasanna Natarajan, Director, Sipping Spirits. Here is what he had to say :

I can safely say that there is no commercial grade potable alcohol that is 'sold' without use of yeast in some form or the other. However, under lab conditions there has been some success to ferment without yeast.

Dr. Laxman S: What is the difference between Red and White Wine ? Which is better for health, especially for ladies ?

Magan : White wine is made from white or red grapes and its colour ranges from pale yellow to deep golden yellow.

Reds, are from red grapes and well, red in colour.
Reds are considered better as they are rich in anti oxidants which slow down ageing.
So I guess the universal vote is with reds...

But generally, this is also there in grape juice so you needn't switch to alcohol necessarily.

In the end, moderation is the best thing.

K : Where do i buy vermouth in Bangalore? What are the types of vermouth and how to use them ?

Tulleeho : K, please refer to the answer to King's query for places to buy Vermouth in Bangalore.

Vermouth is fortified wine which is flavored with wormwood, there may be other herbs and spices also which go into the production of Vermouth but the same are kept as closely guarded secrets. There are principally 3 types of Vermouth. The distinction is done on the basis of sweetness. There's Extra Dry, Bianco and Rosso.

The best and the most common use of Vermouth is in the cocktail Martini. Martini is equal proportions of Gin and Vermouth shaken/stirred with ice and strained into a Martini glass. If you replace the Gin with Vodka it becomes a classic Vodkatini.

Other famous cocktails include the Negroni, Rob Roy & Manhattan - all of these are Classic Cocktails. Vermouth is also often used to substitute white wine in certain European marinades and sauces.
