Dropped in one evening at the Entre Sol bar at Le Meridien. Suitably impressed by the bar’s stylish and spacious ambience and the well turned out smiling staff, I decided to have a frozen Margarita. Peanuts and other fried snacks made an appearance. A Filipino singer was on the keyboards. Everything was going right. Peering over the bar counter, I tried to spot an ice crusher. I did see a blender but no ice crusher. How was the guy going to make a frozen Margarita, I wondered. The barman in the meantime had dropped out of sight. Literally. I got off the stool and walked around the bar to see him squatting (yes, squatting) on the floor banging away at a bag of ice!!!!! My look of utter surprise did not faze him. He stood up, calmly proceeded to shake the crushed ice into the glass, mixed the drink and lo and behold, I was served what the Meridien calls the Frozen Margarita. A Margarita with chipped and broken ice. I was totally stumped!! My wife consoled me with ” at least the napkin was clean and white!!” I offered the barman the opportunity to come over to my home bar and check out how a frozen Margarita should be made. He had no comment.
