I had been to Ice Bar a few times before in the late afternoon to meet with clients whom were staying at the Taj Vivanta, and all on previous occasions we were pretty much the only people in the place. This is always good for meetings but not great when you are going out for a good time. On this visit however we were out for fun and at 9:30 on a Friday night we found the place just starting to get busy. The crowd was heavily western, with some young Indian hipsters and a few seemingly affluent local business types ready to unwind from a hard weeks work.

The atmosphere is Retro-American Nightclub with a glowing blue bar that is nicely accented by the green glow of the pool area. The low sofas and tables make it a nice place to chill out with friends and there are a few tables by the pool if you are lucky enough to get one. On this night the DJ was playing American and Indian retro music. This was just what I was in the mood for, and I thought it fit well with the place. They have a DJ seven nights a week with theme nights approximately 3 Saturdays a month. If you are into that sort of thing they will gladly add you to their mailing list.

As far as drinks go, the focus is on cocktails as they only serve a few wines and a very limited selection of beers. The cocktail menu is really quite nice with some interesting drink choices, including“Flights”; tasting menus of one category of liquor. An example is the champagne based “Flights of Fancy”. It includes one each- Bellini, Rose Blush and Rossini. The other flights were built around Martinis, and single malt scotches. I especially liked that they have a Red Snapper on the menu. The Red Snapper is a gin based Bloody Mary – which is widely considered the “original” Bloody Mary – instead of the vodka base drink you see more commonly. We quite enjoyed these, we each had two; it was great way to start the evening off.

The Teppanyaki menu also looks good.

Happy Hour is buy one, get one free on Indian spirits, beer and wine which is a good deal if you can get out of work early enough to enjoy it.The regular drink prices can set you back a bit.

Ice Bar is great for that afternoon meeting or for hanging out at night with friends. This is also one of those places I might also go to just to get the night started off during happy hour – then onto a night of pub-crawling.
