Snakebite

On the one hand, apples seem pretty harmless, right? You know the old saying Mom used to hit ya with - 'An apple a day keeps the doctor away', right? Apples are choked with good things like Vitamin C and fiber, yeah?

Yet on the other hand, apples have traditionally had a negative connotation - at least as far as the Old Testament is concerned. For didn't the original sin begin when Adam decided to take a chomp out of the 'forbidden apple' in the Garden of Eden? You remember the deal - God said to Adam, 'Get your kicks any way you want, but whatever you do, don't eat the forbidden apple from my tree,' or something to that effect. (It was right before he said 'You can do anything you want to do, child, but whatever you do, stay offa my blue suede shoes').

In any case, we all know the story. This nasty old serpent tempted Eve to eat the apple, which of course she did, and then she managed to wrangle Adam into the whole shabang. Next thing they know, they're walking around in their fig leaves looking for another garden party...

Well, maybe that's where folks came up with the name of this famous cider/beer cocktail called a Snakebite. You've probably already heard of it, but if not, here's the deal.

When you are done making the drink, You'll have a pretty-looking mug - the bottom half amber-colored cider, the top half dark-brown Beer. And the great thing about a Snakebite is that the dryness of the strong beer perfectly offsets the fruity sweetness of the cider, leaving you with a perfectly balanced, and pretty potent, beverage.

Ingredients
  

  • Half a pint Apple Cider dry
  • Half a pint Beer strong

Preparation

  • Fill a beer mug half with the apple cider and slowly top it with the beer using the back of a spoon
